The New York Senate just voted 24 to 38 against legalizing same-sex marriage.
The NY Assembly already passed this bill and Governor Paterson supports it, making the Senate the last hurdle to marriage equality.
Even though Democrats have a 1-seat majority in the NY Senate, a number of Democrats voted against this measure thus guaranteeing its defeat.
This has still been a good week for civil rights, though, considering that DC voted to approve same-sex marriage yesterday.
Plus, I have faith that this won’t be the last time New York takes up the issue of marriage equality.
