Conservatives Deny Reality Once Again

As it turns out, some conservatives have a problem with the Washington Post-ABC poll showing that only 20% of the country identify themselves as Republican.

Conservatives are saying that there have to be more GOPers out there, and therefor the pollsters must have simply undersampled Republicans and therefore their poll can’t be accurate.

Well, in a word, no:

That’s right–according to Pollster’s aggregate of all recent party ID polling, the amount of the American people who identify themselves as Republican is indeed 20%.

The GOP disregards these polls at their peril. Remember how they spent the 2006 and 2008 campaigns telling us that all the pollsters were wrong and that the GOP was going to win? Remember how well that worked out for them?

The first step toward solving a problem is admitting you have one. And thus, the GOP will stay in the minority until they face the fact that their party is strongly, deeply unpopular.
