By a vote of 61-36, the Senate has overcome the Republican filibuster on the economic stimulus package; a final vote on the legislation is expected tomorrow.
All 58 Democrats voted for cloture–including Ted Kennedy, who made his first appearance on the Senate floor since his seizure on Inauguration Day–as did 3 Republicans: Arlen Specter, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe.
This is the first–and biggest–hurdle the stimulus package will face in the Senate. Yet, despite all the conservative sound and fury over this bill, the Democrats managed to get one more vote than they needed.
To all those conservatives who worked tirelessly to kill this bill–even though the battle isn’t over, I have just two words for you: epic. fail.
