After making a huge fuss questioning the independence of Eric Holder, Specter just caved and said he’ll support the attorney general nominee.
“I can say with some confidence that there won’t be a successful filibuster,” Specter told reporters at a press conference gathered to share his thoughts on Holder in advance of tomorrow’s Judiciary panel vote on the nominee.
This is a huge loss for the Roadblock Republicans, who are now 0 for 3 in blocking Obama’s cabinet appointments–they tried to block Hillary Clinton over her husband’s foundation and failed; they tried to block Tim Geithner over his tax issues and failed; and now they’re failing to hold up Holder over his stint in the Clinton administration.
But you know what they say–when first (or second or third) you don’t succeed, try try again. Some member of the Roadblock Republican caucus is currently holding up the nomination of Hilda Solis as Secretary of Labor; how much do you want to bet that, once this is all said and done, the RRs will be 0 for 4?
