Republican Rep. Todd Tiahrt will run to succeed Sam Brownback in the Senate:
Kansas Congressman Todd Tiahrt told Kansas Liberty Wednesday that he was committed to seeking the Senate seat Brownback will vacate in two years. His Republican colleague in the U.S. House, Rep. Jerry Moran, indicated to Kansas Liberty last week that he also was committed to running.
“I knew over a year ago that Sen. Brownback would keep his term limits pledge and not seek another term, and I starting preparing to make a run then,” Tiahrt said. However, he kept those plans quiet, as he was mapping out his campaign for re-election to the U.S. House.
Between Tiahrt and Moran, I’m not sure who has the better chance of winning the Republican primary, but it might not matter–if the Democratic candidate is outgoing Governor Kathleen Sebelius, neither man stands very much of a chance.
